Glenashley Cubs awarded coveted badge

Local residents, Jason Craig, Anthony Wallis and Nicholas Craig said they were proud of their achievements as the Leaping Wolf is the highest award that a cub can achieve.

THREE Cubs from the 1st Glenashley Journey’s End Scouts and Cubs group were recently awarded the coveted Leaping Wolf badge.

Local residents, Jason Craig, Anthony Wallis and Nicholas Craig said they were proud of their achievements as the Leaping Wolf is the highest award that a Cub can achieve.

Due to the complex nature, as well as the dedication required to complete this badge, only 1% of cubs actually complete this challenge and are awarded the badge, explained Pack Scouter, Jodi Craig.

Jason Craig, Anthony Wallis and Nicholas Craig from the 1st Glenashley Journey’s End Scouts and Cubs group show off their Leaping Wolf Badge.

“To earn this badge, the cubs have to work on their own, in their own time and complete a number of challenges before their 11th birthday. The cubs have to undertake: a personal challenge, earn the first aid badge and two advanced badges, plan and carry out a planting project, find out about a global issue such as poverty, conservation and show what you can do to help. That’s just scratching the surface. All this needs to be logged in a log book, which is sent to the regional headquarters to be assessed.

“It teaches the cubs to be independent, makes them aware of what is around them and how they can help and assist their community and the greater world. I’m extremely proud of them because around 1% of cubs achieve this badge. In all, this takes about a year to complete, so the support from their families has been instrumental in getting them to this achievement,” Craig said.
