Swimmer tackles first Midmar swim for Durban North charity

The swimmer is calling on donors to sponsor towards her swim. All proceeds will go towards repairing the roof of a Durban North baby home.

A THIRD-YEAR intern at Chelsea Preparatory School will be swimming the aQuellé Midmar Mile this weekend all in the name of charity.

Faith Whittle has decided to devote every lap to The Domino Foundation’s Baby Home in Durban North which is need of some serious roof repairs.

“I am challenging all 20-year-olds, school interns, schools, youth groups, fellow surfers and community-centric ambassadors to pledge R160 to this cause. The Domino Foundation has placed 180 babies with their forever families in the past 20 years, which is how old I am. Isn’t that amazing?” she asked.

House mother, Precious Thabethe, said although the roof is not about to fall on anyone’s head, it is time to replace the timber, ceiling and tiles.

“It’s not imminently about to fall on our heads, but we know now is the time to give it a major overhaul which will include replacement of timbers, ceilings and the tiles,” she said.

Cathy Whittle, who heads Domino’s operations team, said about R1.2 million was needed for the roof.

“With our seven programmes impacting thousands of beneficiaries each day, every rand is accounted for. So, when something like this rears its unexpected head, we need to look to the ever-generous community and business world which have seen our effectiveness and accountability over the past two decades,” she added.

You can donate via Zapper towards this cause or by EFT: The Domino Foundation, FNB, 62070191962. Send proof of payment to accounts@domino.org.za, if you would like an 18A Donation Receipt.
