Umhlanga beauty queen hosts global pageant

Sixteen semi-finalists have been chosen and they attended a workshop at Radisson Blu in uMhlanga two weeks ago.

A BEAUTY pageant with national and international recognition has arrived in uMhlanga and it is all about the unorthodox woman, each with their own stories to tell, who want to make a true difference in the lives of others.

Aldytha Da Silva, a make-up artist and Mrs South Africa first princess, has transitioned from entering pageants to owning and hosting one – Mrs Curve South Africa.

“This pageant is for the woman who is married, divorced, unmarried with children, single, has tattoos and isn’t a specific height, weight or body type,” she said.

Da Silva said the powerhouse of women, who came from all over the country, shared their stories and networked. Some even fought tooth and nail to get there and those stories of missing flights and hopping onto buses were also heard.

Prior to the workshop and networking session, 30 women had auditioned for Mrs Curve but these 16 made the cut.

“What amazing women. The energy in the room was positive and vibrant. These 16 women are going to be phenomenal,” she added.

Although the pageant is new to South Africa, there is a reigning Mrs Curve, Tahira Hassim.

“When I was overseas last year and decided to purchase the rights to Mrs Curve, I held a mini pageant in front of judges. Mrs Curve needed a face and an ambassador which is Tahira Hassim,” said Da Silva.

The winner of Mrs Curve 2025 will go on to the Mrs Curve Global where women from all over the world will vie for the international title.

“Pageantry is not a walk in the park, contrary to what people think. I want these women to shine, to change the world and shape the way for future generations to follow. It’s so important to me to share what I have learnt with these women,” she said.

Da Silva adeed that hosting the majority of the events leading to the pageant in Durban was important to her as Durban is home.

“We’ve been through looting and floods and still we have risen stronger than before. Hosting the gala of Mrs Curve South Africa in Durban will be an honour for me, a boost for tourism and the local economy,” she said.
