KZN TRANSPORT MEC Siboniso Duma has confirmed taxis will back on the road tomorrow after an agreement was reached with operators this evening.

The parties had been in meetings since yesterday negotiating the condition for the regulation of e-hailing services and the release of impounded taxis belonging to the Clermont and KwaDabeka taxi associations.

Duma said it was agreed to hold an Indaba and the formation of a task team to deal with issues raised at the heated engagement. He said, “Our aim is to safeguard passengers, a majority of them who use the taxis.”

He added that following the robust meeting it was agreed that the strike will be called off. “A solution has been found,” said Duma. This was confirmed by Mathula Mkhize, the chairperson of the eThekwini Metro Taxi Council.  He said, “We have accepted the forming of a task team that will work on teething matters that affect our sector. The imbizo will assist in finding a solution to the issues with taxis and e-hailing services as people have become accustomed to it.”
