According to Ensure Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenan, teams were dispatched shortly after 22:00 following reports that a white light utility vehicle had veered off the road and struck a streetlight pole. Responders found the driver unconscious inside the vehicle.
Emergency medical services were activated through the E2 KwaZulu-Natal Operational Command Centre. Paramedics arrived quickly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Early indications suggest he may have suffered a medical emergency that led to cardiac arrest before the collision.
“The scene indicated that the vehicle left the roadway prior to impact, and sadly, despite the rapid response from paramedics, the driver could not be revived,” said Van Reenan.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family during this very difficult time.”
The SAPS has opened an investigation into the incident.
