Market in Parkhill to celebrate creativity, inclusion

Action in Autism’s Endless Summer Market returns with handmade crafts, food, and a celebration of autistic talent and inclusion.

ACTION in Autism is gearing up for the return of its much-loved annual market, which this year embraces the theme Endless Summer.

The community event, known for its festive spirit and strong message of inclusion, will take place on Saturday, December 6, from 09:00 to 14:00 at 105 Haig Road, Parkhill.

The market will once again shine a spotlight on the talents of autistic adults enrolled at the organisation’s Shahumna Centre, a Skills Transfer and Business Hub where students participate in a three-year entrepreneurship programme.

In preparation for the event, students have been busy producing handmade crafts, nurturing plants, and baking a range of treats that will be available for purchase.

“This event is incredibly special to us,” said Liza Aziz, Director of Action in Autism.

“The Endless Summer Market demonstrates what is possible when autistic individuals are supported, encouraged, and given meaningful opportunities. Our students take immense pride in showcasing their talents, and the community’s participation truly helps foster a more inclusive and understanding society.”

The year-end market remains a major highlight for the organisation, giving students real-world experience as they plan, prepare, and manage their own stalls.

According to Ashvir Dalu, manager of the Shahumna Centre, the event has also become an important annual fundraiser.

“Moreover, it continuously serves as a platform for our talented autistic students to showcase their learnt skills in cooking, gardening, arts, and business management, and enables engagement with the public in an accepting space that is fully supportive of neurodiversity,” Dalu said.

He added that he hopes for a strong turnout from community members eager to support the students and help spread the message that autistic individuals can and do contribute meaningfully to society.

This year’s market promises a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere with a variety of stalls, delicious food, handmade crafts, pony rides, and a jumping castle.
