VIDEO: Fatal crash closes M4 near uMhlanga

Reports from the scene indicate that several were injured while one person died.

A horrific multi-vehicle collision on the N2 northbound at the M4, just before the Umhlanga off-ramp, has left one person dead and several others injured earlier today (Saturday, December 13).

Emergency services responded to the scene where a truck, a fully loaded minibus taxi and a bakkie were involved in the crash. The roadway has been completely closed to traffic due to extensive wreckage and ongoing rescue operations.

ALS Paramedics confirmed that two critically injured were trapped in the wreckage, while one woman, believed to be a nurse, died at the scene.

“Fourteen other patients sustained minor injuries and were assessed and treated at the scene by multiple ambulance services,” said spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

“Our teams worked with other emergency services to treat the injured and manage the scene. The accident was spread over several meters across the roadway and the area will remain closed for some time.”

He urged motorists to avoid the area at all costs, as significant traffic disruptions are expected while emergency crews continue their work and authorities investigate the cause of the crash.
