Calvin & Family Group hits back after police raid in tender fraud probe
Calvin Mathibeli claims a SAPS raid on the company’s Durban North premises is part of a years-long campaign of harassment.
Reports that police conducted a search and seizure from the Durban North premises of security company Calvin & Family Group has drawn a strong response from the company’s chairman, Calvin Mathibeli, who claims he has been the target of a years-long campaign of harassment by certain police officials.

The search yesterday (March 10) was part of a probe into fraudulent government tenders worth millions which were allegedly secured by the group.
In a media statement issued on March 10, Mathibeli said the search and seizure operation was based on “false and misleading allegations” and formed part of what he described as a pattern of intimidation against him and the company over the past seven years.
Mathibeli alleged that members of the SAPS had repeatedly attempted to target both him and the business through what he characterised as unlawful actions and baseless investigations.
“The latest action, involving a search and seizure operation based on false and misleading allegations, is simply another continuation of this pattern of harassment,” he said.
According to Mathibeli, the incident was part of a broader effort by certain individuals to manipulate law enforcement structures to advance private interests within the security industry and eliminate competition.
He claimed the conflict dates back about four years when a Gauteng-based security company owner allegedly approached him at his premises and demanded that he share his business. Mathibeli said he refused, after which a campaign of intimidation and interference allegedly began.
The same individual, whom Mathibeli described as a former police officer, allegedly later lost a security contract to his company and had since boasted about having influence over certain members of the police.
Mathibeli further alleged that the individual had approached one of his clients in December 2025 in an attempt to pressure the company into sharing a contract. In exchange, the individual allegedly promised that “all the problems with the police” the company had been experiencing would disappear.
“This statement alone demonstrates the level of manipulation and collusion that exists between certain private individuals and elements within law enforcement,” Mathibeli said in the statement.
He also alleged that the individual had been sharing information about planned police raids on the company’s offices with associates, raising concerns about how sensitive operational information was being handled.
“It is deeply concerning that the SAPS appears to be captured and manipulated by individuals seeking to settle business rivalries through State machinery,” he said.
The SAPS had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publishing.
