Police seek next of kin for body found near Beachwood Mangroves

Police say they have not been able to identify the victim since his body was found on August 19.

DURBAN North SAPS said an inquest docket has been opened after the body of an unidentified man washed up near the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve.

According to station spokesperson Captain Raymond Deokaran, police are now appealing to members of the community to help locate his next of kin.

“The man’s body was found by fishermen on August 19 and was in a state of advanced decomposition. Unfortunately, we couldn’t process his fingerprints as they were eaten away. As a result, the identity of the victim is still unknown, as well as his next of kin. The only clothing visible on the man was red socks. He is an African male believed to be in his 40s,” Deokaran said.

“We are appealing to anyone with information on the identity of the deceased to contact police through the investigating officer, Carl Harishun, on 084 653 4054.”
