NORTHWAY Vet and local rescue organisation Feeding the Furballs have joined forces for a free rabies vaccination campaign that begins on October 4.

Founder of the organisation Farrah Khan Maharajh said this was in an effort to contribute to the Zero by 30 campaign, a global strategic plan to end human deaths from rabies by 2030.

“Feeding the Furballs initially put out a call for vets to donate their time to help administer rabies vaccines for free to the community. We received positive feedback from as far as the Kalahari, and we are so excited that Northway Vet has taken up the challenge.

“As an organisation, to date, we have made 490 doses of rabies vaccines available for free for administration to the public. We encourage the public to take this opportunity to get their pets’ rabies vaccines up-to-date. Follow our page to find out about other campaigns,” Khan Maharajh said.

She added that bookings are essential for the drive.

The free rabies vaccination drive starts on Tuesday, October 4 between 12:00 and 13:00 at Northway Vet (17 Kelvin Place) while stocks last.

“Five clients will be taken per day, and bookings are essential. Contact the vet on 031 563 8384. I urge pet owners to also bring their pet’s vaccination book along,” she said.
