New Bridge Theatre for North Durbanites

The New Bridge Theatre situated at Northlands Primary School will open its doors with a performance by the award-winning Durban one-hander, The King of Broken Things, this November.

DURBAN North’s new Bridge Theatre will open its doors with a performance by the award-winning Durban one-hander, The King of Broken Things this November.

The picturesque 100-seater theatre, situated at Northlands Primary School, will stage the whimsical, profound and poignant production, which returns triumphant after being invited to The Golden Dolphin International Puppet Festival 2022 which is held every three years in Bulgaria. This year, The King of Broken Things will run from Friday, November 4 until Sunday, November 12.

The idea behind the launch of The Bridge is to snowball a theatre-going audience in the Durban North area, and also provide an opportunity for learners to get first-hand experience of live arts by becoming involved in the production of the show.

Writer, Producer and Director Michael Taylor-Broderick says The King of Broken Things provokes its audience to imagine, dream and believe.

Produced by the Theatresmiths and the ideas expressed by a child (played by Cara Roberts), the show addresses issues facing society, such as bullying, gratuitous waste, prejudice, absent fathers and the consequences of war.

“It is a show about hope, about fixing and mending, about forgiving and about healing; all of these are key ingredients that are much needed in our beloved country right now,” he said.
