“The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. When paramedics arrived on scene, the man, believed to be in his 30s, went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics spent more than 40 minutes attempting to resuscitate the victim. Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, the man’s condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead on the scene,” Herbst said.

First responders on scene confirmed the suspect involved in the shooting has been taken into custody by the Durban North SAPS and the gun used in the incident was recovered at the scene.

Northglen News is awaiting comment from the SAPS on possible charges the suspect faces.

The area around the pier and the pier itself have been cordoned off, and it is an active crime scene.
