WATCH: Danville, Northwood and Northlands celebrate outstanding results
Northglen News chatted to some of the learners who gave us insight into how they tackled learning through a pandemic.
THE Matric Class of 2022 has scored a remarkable 80.1% pass rate, despite being the group that was mostly hit by the ‘devastating’ effects of Covid-19 and load-shedding.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s announcement of an overall improved pass rate on Thursday was met with applause.
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass rate is slightly higher than the 76.4% recorded in 2021, an increase of 3.7% compared to the previous year.
Northglen News visited Northwood School, Northlands Girls’ High School and Danville Park Girls’ High School to chat with their top learners about the challenges over the past three years.
Northwood School
The school’s principal, Paul Viljoen, commended the Class of 2022.
“The Matric Class of 2022 has made us incredibly proud, achieving a 98.8% pass rate, placing us at the top of the Public Boys Schools in the Province. A total of 24 boys achieved A aggregates, with four boys achieving a full house of seven distinctions.
“Overall, the Class of 2022 achieved 227 subject distinctions, with 97.4% of students qualifying for tertiary study, of which 80% qualified with a Bachelor’s Pass. The grade obtained an overall average of 64.5%. Special mention goes to our top 3 achievers: Tanay Mooruth, placing first with an aggregate of 92%; Michael Naidoo placing second with a 91% aggregate, and Suven Naidoo achieving 89%, placing him third overall. The management and staff congratulate our Class of 2022 on their fantastic results – a culmination of hard work from our learners, guidance and support from parents and unending commitment from our teaching staff,” he said.
Danville Park Girls’ High School
The principal at Danville Park Girls’ High School, Linda Scholtz, said she was proud of the Class of 2022 for achieving a 100% pass rate.
“Well done to all our learners and educators on an incredible achievement. We are so proud of you all,” she said.
Northlands Girls’ High School
Principal of Northlands Girls’ High School, Theven Reddy was full of praise for his learners on their results.
“With all the hardships they faced, including the natural disasters, they pulled through with outstanding results. I’m very proud of what they have all achieved. We had a 100% pass rate. We are also extremely proud of Dhiya who has been a shining light for us. She is our top learner as well as the school’s Dux and extremely deserving of her accolades,” Reddy said.
