Copper thief gets away in Park Hill

The suspect dropped a bag with stolen goods in the Avoca area and managed to evade arrest by entering dense bush.

A COPPER pipe thief was caught in the act on Blackburn Road in the Park Hill area when the property owner spotted him stealing the pipes and copper water meter on Monday evening.

“As soon as the suspect noticed that he had been seen, he dropped the stolen copper and fled in an unknown direction, carrying a bag,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

A clothing description of the suspect was circulated to officers to be on the lookout.

“When the suspect was spotted on Old North Coast in the Avoca area, he dropped his bag and entered a dense bush near an informal settlement. Despite an extensive and lengthy search, the suspect managed to evade arrest,” added Powell.

A power tool, camera and portable speaker were found inside the bag. It is unclear where the items were stolen from, but they were handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.
