Men appear in court for lecturer’s murder

The men face charges of kidnapping, murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

TWO men, Sihle Mkhize (25) and Siyabonga Maye (35), appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court yesterday for the kidnapping and murder of Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) lecturer  Chanlall ‘Shan’ Dwarika.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the matter was remanded to June 13 for a formal bail application.

“Mkhize and Maye are charged with kidnapping, murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances,” she said.

Dwarika was kidnapped from his rental home in Sea Cow Lake on May 28 while conducting maintenance. His family became worried after not hearing from him for several hours. They then reported him missing.

A SAPS Provincial Task Team, which was set up last Friday, found the victim’s body in Inanda on Saturday afternoon following days of investigation by Reaction Unit South Africa officers and Greenwood Park SAPS.
