Crusaders reflect on positive rugby campaign
Head coach Ronnie Uys reflects on the past season for the Crusaders first and second teams.
THERE are a number of positives to take away for the Capital Legacy Crusaders this season after both their first and second team competed against College Rovers in the finals of the Murray Cup and Peter Taylor knockout finals at Varsity College Durban North.
The seconds lost their final 11–16 while the first team went down 14–28.
Both games were fiercely and tightly contested with the seconds taking the game to extra time after it was tied 11–11 at the 80-minutes mark.
Head coach Ronnie Uys said he was proud of both his teams who’ve made remarkable headway after a disappointing season last year.
“Our second team won their respective league this year, and they really showed true grit and gees on the day. The first team also performed admirably, and we finished the league in second position. Considering we finished fifth last year, I feel the team has shown determination and belief, and we can only get better from here.
“In the finals, we always knew it was going to be a tough day out. I also want to congratulate Rovers on their two wins. The coaching staff are incredibly proud of our Saders manne and the way they have performed this season, as we have had one of the most successful seasons at Saders for some time,” he said.
Uys also praised his fellow coaches, Colin Eales, Grant Bashford and Riaan Swanepoel.
“They deserve so much credit for the way they’ve moulded and prepared the teams. We have such a talent pool of knowledge and rugby acumen. It is always great to have such passionate guys in the engine room driving the team. We now take a break, and we’ll return in December, ready to tackle the new season,” he said.
