Support Glen Hills baby home ahead of festivities
The baby home, now in its 13th year, has either re-unified or found families for the 70 babies that have come through their doors.
CHRISTMAS is around the corner, and if you’re thinking about assisting a charitable cause, put the Ray of Hope Babies’ Home on your list of possible beneficiaries.
Situated in Glen Hills, the home has been the first place of comfort for 74 babies and toddlers who have come through its doors for the last 13 years.

All have been adopted by or reunified with loving families in South Africa and overseas. Now, there are six babies at the home waiting to be placed.
Speaking to Northglen News, baby home mother Rachel Uys said the six children at the home are now toddlers with a whole new list of needs, and two have already started school.
“Our babies are now toddlers, and the oldest two are going to preschool,” she said.
“Now, it’s snacks and yoghurt for school, pull-up pants, as well as nappies for nighttime that they need,” she said.
The younger babies are not far behind them and growing fast, and Uys says that soon, they, too, will be going to school if they are not adopted.
“We can only accommodate six babies at a time, and right now, we are at full capacity. Although there are requests to take in newborns, we unfortunately can’t until the babies that are here are with families,” she added.

Since Christmas is around the corner, Uys also welcomes gifts for the children.
“Another thing that the babies need more than anything are lots of hugs and cuddles, so we welcome volunteers. They need to be held and loved – it’s almost like they know something is wrong, as if they are missing something,” said Uys.

Another way to help Ray of Hope is to visit the Somerset Park Market’s Christmas Fair on December 1 and 2 at the Immanuel Church. Proceeds from stall bookings go to the home.
The fair starts at 14:00 and closes at 19:00 on the Friday while opening at 09:00 and closing at 14:00 on the Saturday.
