Two arrested for copper pipe theft from Briardene business

The suspects are facing charges of theft at the Greenwood Park SAPS.

TWO suspects linked to the theft of copper pipes from a business on Travertine Crescent in Briardene were arrested on Saturday afternoon.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, they responded to an alarm activation at the business premises at about 16:30.

“A security officer on scene spotted two suspects stealing copper pipes from one of the premises within the business complex. An accurate description of the suspects was then circulated to our response officers who were en route to assist.

“The two suspects were then spotted on Kew Road in the Kenville area. As soon as the suspects noticed our team members, they dropped their stolen items and attempted to flee on foot. One suspect was then promptly apprehended by our armed response officer, while the second suspect was then apprehended on Brickworks Way after jumping into a business complex in an attempt to evade arrest,” Powell said.

The suspects were handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS and were charged with theft.

According to Powell, theft of copper over the last few months has been one of the top three most reported crimes.
