Reports indicate that the fire broke out at about 15:00 and that people were safely evacuated.

Xolile Abdul, acting division commander for Verulam Fire Department, told Northglen News that it’s all hands on deck to try and extinguish the fire.

“There are several fire departments currently working together to put out the fire. The challenges are the wind and that there are no fire hydrants near the building. We are getting water from a neighbouring building,” she said.

“The building is two storeys; the bottom is a fireworks sales business, and the top is used for gun handling and training. There’s also a warehouse storing tyres which are highly inflammable, ” she said.

She said no injuries had been reported, and at this stage, the structural damage cannot be determined.
