Ward 34 councillor to step down at the end of May

A date for a by-election for the position is yet to be announced.

BOBBY Maharajh, has announced his resignation as Ward 34 councillor effective at the end of May.

A member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Maharajh said the decision was taken owing to personal circumstances and health matters related to his wife.

Maharajh, who has been in the post since 2016, said he would use the remaining time in office to continue serving the public and preparing to hand over to a new councillor.

A by-election date to fill the position is yet to be announced.

DA KZN provincial chairperson Dean Macpherson also commented on Maharajh’s resignation.

“The party leadership will be looking at building on the current foundations in place to ensure that Ward 34 is retained as a DA ward,” he said.
