One killed, four injured in Durban North shooting

The shooter is still at large according to security services.

ONE person has been killed while four others were shot and injured in a mass shooting incident on Adelaide Tambo Drive (Kensington Drive) in Durban North on Sunday afternoon (April 28).

The shooter, who is still at large, is believed to have escaped on foot.

According to Kyle van Reenen, spokesperson for Ensure Security, various emergency services responded to the scene just after 15:00.

“One person had been shot dead while four others had been left with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Paramedics attended to the injured and stabilised them on scene,” he said.

Van Reenen added that the motive for the shooting is unknown.

“The events preceding it are unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” he said.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said the other patients injured in the shooting were stabilised at the scene by multiple ambulance services before being rushed to nearby hospitals.

According to the Durban North CPF, Adelaide Tambo Drive was initially closed to traffic while law enforcement conducted their investigations.
