Support Umhlanga’s Reach For A Dream this Slipper Day

There are also dream rooms at certain hospitals in Durban, which the organisation has built, where children can experience their dreams through virtual reality.

MANY will agree that one of the most comfortable shoes to wear are slippers, so much so that there’s a whole day dedicated to South Africans supporting a certain nonprofit organisation by buying a pair of comfortable and quirky slippers and wearing them on May 31.

The beneficiary is Reach For A Dream which has been making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses, and this year’s theme, ‘Step into My Slippers’, focuses on empathy, fun and stepping
into the shoes (or rather, slippers) of these brave children.

This simple act demonstrates solidarity and support for these children who often spend their days in slippers due to their health conditions.

Kerry Donkin, regional manager of Reach For A Dream for KZN, Free State and Northern Cape, told Northglen News it’s the organisation’s biggest national fundraiser.

“It’s the perfect way for corporates, schools and individuals to get on board and help a child’s dream come true. All the children we help  are fighting a life-threatening illness. Some of them dream of meeting celebrities; some want to taste ice cream for the first time. No matter what the dream is, we do
our best to make it come true,” she said.

Support Slipper Day Stickers cost R20 each and can be purchased from Wimpy, Pick ’n Pay, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, DisChem Baby City, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Krispy Kreme and HushPuppies.co.za.

Those who want to buy their stickers and a pair of funky slippers or socks online can click through to the Reach For A Dream website – www.reachforadream. org.za.

This year, Zapper has come on board to make it possible for people to pay for their virtual stickers by scanning a Zapper QR code. If you wear your sticker and slippers to Wimpy on May 31, you can get a free Famous Coffee (or hot chocolate for children under 12).
