Somerset Park church to host women’s event

Four knowledgeable speakers will host sessions pertaining to women's overall well-being, including topics like stress management and hormonal health.

THE Immanuel Church in Somerset Park is hosting a series of health and wellness talks for women who want to get more in touch with their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The Women’s Well-being event takes place at the church on August 16 and 17 and comprises four speakers, each sharing their expertise on topics relevant to women.

Organiser Sue Stevens said the event is open to women from all walks of life.

“It’s an opportunity for women to learn and grow in knowledge about a healthier lifestyle. As women, we’re naturally inclined to nurture our loved ones first, so we forget to take care of ourselves. So this Women’s Month, we encourage all women to come and listen to the speakers and get to know more about their bodies. Some of the speakers will also include God’s plans for our bodies and how to manage our challenges,” she said.

The following topics will be discussed: living well, which deals with the overall wellness of the body; hormonal health which will be about everything hormonal – debunking myths and stating facts; sexual health; menopause, and stress management.

Speakers who will head the four sessions are Photini Kiepiela, Anna Coutsoudis, Dr Natasha Thumbiran, Tarryn Graham and Sandy Meyer.

“We’re hoping to motivate women to prioritise their wellness journey and share the challenges we have as women. There will also be solutions discussed and what we can do to make our lives easier,” said Stevens.

She also encouraged mothers of teenage daughters to attend and to bring their teens along with them. “The topics being discussed are relevant to our teenage girls, and it’s a good idea for them to learn about their bodies from professionals,” she said.

“I think it may also help moms understand the hormonal changes [that occur] from teenagehood to adulthood,” added Stevens.

She added that it was important for women to come together and realise that they’re not alone and to support each other through life’s challenges.

There will also be a WhatsApp line available for women to send questions which will be answered on the Saturday.

The cost is R200 for the two-day event. Tickets can be purchased through Quicket and include coffee and snacks. For more information, call 079 195 5535.
