One arrested for selling municipal refuse bags

The operation was conducted by members of the Metro Police Central Region and the Durban Central Field Unit.

A SUSPECT has been arrested by Metro Police for illegally selling refuse bags at the Greyville Flea Market on Tuesday, September 3.

The operation as a result of a tip-off was conducted by members of the Metro Police Central Region and the Durban Central Field Unit.

Metro Police spokesman Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed it was illegal to sell Municipal refuse bags and urged residents to report the crime.

“The arrest was a result of the Metro Police acting on a tip off they received. They found the suspect with 60 clear packets, each contained 100 CSW refuse bags worth R6 000. He was also in the possession of three sealed bags, each containing 26 CSW refuse bags.

“The City reminds residents that CSW black refuse bags are not for sale and are delivered to residential properties every three months. Residents are encouraged to notify the City in the event of anyone selling CSW refuse bags by calling 031 311 8804,” he said.
