One toy makes a world of difference for Briardene children’s fun day
Several organisations have come together to make the fun day a success, and you can contribute by attending the day and donating a toy.
NON-PROFIT organisations, business, schools and the community sector are joining forces with two Durban North men to host a fun day for the children and teenagers of Briardene at the end of November.

The Durban North Kids Community Fun Day is the brainchild of Sam Reddy and Johann van den Berg.
They sounded the call for community and business participation about a month ago and will now be joined by the Lions Club of North Durban, The Leos volunteers, Round Table Durban North, the Disaster Relief Support programme, Durban North Pharmacy and non-profit organisation TREE.
The Durban North Kids Community Fun Day takes place on November 30 from 10:00 to 14:00 at TREE’s premises on the corner of Krishna Road and Chris Hani Road.
Joining in to make the day a success is The 031 Market which takes place at Crusaders Rugby Club on October 25.
Anyone attending the market is urged to bring a toy, new or used, which will be handed out to children and teens on the fun day.

“People have really come forth to assist the cause in any way they can. We encourage anyone coming to the market to drop off new or used toys which will be gifted to children and teenagers at the fun day,” said Reddy.
The market is open from 17:00 and 21:00.
“We’re hoping to make this an annual event because it’s important that these children know that they’re part of a community that cares,” said Van den Berg.
Another club that has come on board is The Leos from the Lions Club of North Durban. Lyla Mia Appasamy will be co-ordinating learners who want to volunteer on the day.
“We encourage more teens to get involved through The Leos as this fun day is a day for teenagers and children. Learners can volunteer time, interact with other children, perform a skit or dance and just enjoy the day,” she said.
“We would really like to see schools from the area come to the fore and participate in this event,” added Lyla.
A diabetes workshop is being held by Durban North Pharmacy, and all proceeds will go to the children’s fun day. The workshop takes place at Parkhill Bowling Club on Sunday, November 17, from 13:00 to 16:00.
