Call for Durban’s emerging filmmakers to apply for funding

The Durban Film Office, under the eThekwini Municipality, defines emerging filmmakers as those who have produced a work that has earned industry or public attention as well as aspiring writer, directors or producers.

IN a bid to revive the local film industry, the Durban Film Office is urging for submissions for the micro-budget film fund.

According to the Durban Film Office under the eThekwini Municipality, the applications are open from October 23 to November 30, and no late applications will be accepted. “The micro-budget film programme aims to support emerging filmmakers and encourage the production of content to stimulate the development of the local film industry. The programme also seeks to develop a local model and brand of ‘made for TV’ films that is cost-effective, practical and commercially viable,” says the office in the statement.

“The micro-budget film fund offers R350 000 for the production of a feature-length film to three projects. The fund fact sheet is also available on the Durban Film Office website to assist you in outlining the overview of the programme and checking eligibility criteria, submission criteria, the evaluation process and the contractual agreement,” the office adds.
