Get funky and raise funds for autism centre in Park Hill

The event promises to be a fun evening out while raising funds for Action in Autism.

THE air is filled with excitement and students are eager as the first themed fundraising dinner and dance takes place at Action in Autism in Park Hill next weekend.

The theme is Mardi Gras, but students have decided to add a little twist to it and are encouraging supporters to be brave and come dressed in their feathers, frills, masks, hats, costumes and even suits if they prefer.

Action in Autism director Nadia Bhayat said the community and business are invited to support the fundraiser which promises to be both enlightening and fun for all.

“There will be delicious food, a deejay, musicians and goodie bags for everyone who comes. It’s also a great opportunity for people to come and learn more about Action in Autism and what we do. It’s always better to see for yourself,” said Bhayat.

This year, the organisation has gone one step ahead and is planning on showcasing what a silent disco is all about as there are some autistic children and adults who have auditory sensitivities and aren’t able to cope with loud noises.

“We want families to know that there are still ways for autistic people to enjoy things in life just as anybody else would. It will just be a trial of about two or three songs to create awareness that such services do exist,” she added.

The event takes place at Action in Autism at 105 Haig Road at 18:00. Tickets cost R200 per person and R360 per couple. Corporates are welcome to sponsor a table of 10 at the cost of R3 600, either for staff or for parents who can’t afford to purchase a ticket.
