Durban cyclists gear up to collect stationery on beachfront
The fun cycle event aims to collect stationery for a iCare – Giving Children a Future and put smiles on faces ahead of the festive season.
IT’S that time of the year again when cyclists from the Classic Steel and Vintage Cycle Club Durban hold their Christmas Hat Ride Cycle all in the name of spreading festive cheer and collecting stationery for iCare – Giving Children a Future.
iCare – Giving Children a Future is a home that houses young homeless boys.

Eric Prinsloo, founder of the club, said all cyclists are welcome to attend and ride, even on modern bicycles, and those not wanting to cycle but who would like to donate stationery can drop them off at the start which will be at Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday, November 24, between 08:30 and 11:00.
“The event was very well supported last year, and we donated a huge amount of stationery for distribution to less fortunate children to assist with their back-to-school requirements. We appeal to all members of the public to please support this initiative,” he said.
“Our club is very community-oriented, and we make it a point to make a difference in our community. And this is the best way we know how – to ride and make a difference,” said Prinsloo.
Club members, who are all about collecting and restoring beautiful old bicycles, will also have a display for the public to view in the morning.
“Even if you don’t cycle, grab a cup of coffee and take a look at the bicycles,” he said.
For those who want to join the cycle, it will be an easygoing, fun 10–14 km ride from Pirates along the promenade and back. Nothing hectic – just make sure you wear a Christmas hat and smile and wave to the people along the way,” he added.
The Classic Steel and Vintage Cycle Club Durban meets for coffee and rides once a month, every second Sunday of the month, at 07:00. For more information, you can contact Prinsloo on 082 653 7099.
