“Information ascertained on the scene alleged that the men were celebrating finishing work for the year, when an altercation broke out, resulting in an exchange of gun fire. The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation,” he said.

It has been a deadly weekend across Durban after four people, including two officers, were killed in Cliffdale near Hammarsdale.

It is believed the officers were responding to a murder of a woman when a suspect fired on the police officers, fatally wounding two of them.

The two officers who are in their 50s are from the Hammarsdale police station.
