Umhlanga Round Table Christmas tree sales going well

If you are still shopping for a Christmas tree consider buying one from the Umhlanga Round Table to support their fundraising drive for charity.

FOR the past 64 years Round Table has sold Christmas trees to fundraise for charitable outreach programmes they are involved in.

That tradition has been proudly carried on by the Umhlanga Round Table No. 155 which has sold trees in the north Durban area for more than a decade.

Co-ordinator of the Christmas tree sales, Adrian Pretorius, has encouraged residents to support the final days of their Christmas tree sales which ends this Sunday, December 22 at 14:00.

“On average, we sell about 1 000 Christmas trees in a three-to-four-week period and the prices range from R300 the smallest to R800 depending on size. All funds raised go towards various projects that the Round Table champion.

“One of the projects were are involved in is with Elder’s Voice on the south coast, an elderly community upliftment initiative. We’ve arranged a new stove for them and we hope to continue supporting various other charitable outreach programmes. This is for a good cause and, instead of buying a tree from elsewhere, where the profit goes to the sellers, why not support charity?” he said.

Pretorius added they also sell Christmas tree buckets, some decorations and support a trader from the Magic Bean Foundation who also sells items at the sales tent.

The sales tent is situated at the entrance to the Crusaders Sports Club on 10 Ranleigh Crescent (Durban North).

Ntombi Gumede from the Magic Bean Foundation shows off some of the items she sells.
