Two arrested for Avoca armed robbery

Law enforcement recovered two fold-out knives and a cellphone, believed to have been stolen.

TWO suspects have been arrested for allegedly robbing a pedestrian of her belongings on Deepdale Road in Avoca on Sunday evening (January 19).

The suspects, who were armed with knives, approached the woman who was walking on the road.

Marshall Security’s spokesperson Tyron Powell confirmed the incident occurred at about 18:37.

“Information received from the scene indicated that two suspects armed with knives approached a female and demanded her valuables. The victim attempted to run for help, but the suspects chased after her and threatened her before fleeing with her phone.

“A description of the wanted armed suspects was circulated and a few minutes later, the suspects were spotted walking along Prince Mhlangana Road. Both suspects were detained and upon searching the suspects, knives and the victim’s stolen phone were recovered. The suspects were taken by the SAPS to the Greenwood Park police station,” Powell said.

There has been a string of incidents across north Durban where pedestrians, particularly women, have been targeted by robbers either on foot or in a vehicle.

Last week, Northglen News interviewed teenage sisters who escaped an attempted mugging in Greenwood Park.
