Suspect linked to N2 CIT robbery shot dead in Durban CBD
One suspect was shot and fatally wounded at the scene while the other one was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries.
A SUSPECT who was allegedly being pursued by police and who was linked to a cash-in-transit robbery on the N2 was killed in a shootout with police on Che Guevara Road (old Moore Road) on Tuesday (February 4).
Provincial SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police were following information regarding vehicles fleeing the scene of the CIT robbery on the N2 freeway on the same day which left one security guard dead.
“The identified vehicle was intercepted at an intersection in Glenwood and the suspects opened fire towards the police. Police retaliated and during the shootout, one suspect was shot and fatally wounded and the other one was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries. No police officer was injured during the shootout,” he said.

Netshiunda said the two suspects have also been positively linked with the triple murder case which happened at the Ntambanana policing precinct in January 2025 and another double murder case which was committed in June 2024 in the same area.
“Investigations also revealed another vehicle which was hijacked at KwaMakhutha area and used in the robbery has just been found abandoned in Mariannhill, with what looked to be money bags inside,” he said.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed the incident occurred on the N2 near the NPC cement factory.
The cash-in-transit vehicle had been forced off the road before it was blown up by multiple suspects who then robbed the vehicle of its contents.

In their attempt to get away the suspects shot and injured 11 people at three different scenes, the N2, the M1 Higginson Highway and Silverglen Drive.
In the Silverglen Drive incident, two women and a security officer were shot.
The officer sustained fatal gunshot wounds and she was declared deceased on the scene.
