Julio’s Umhlanga officially closes its doors
The restaurant took to social media to thank its patrons and said they had become ‘family’ and would cherish the memories.
DURBANITES have reacted with sadness following the news that Portuguese restaurant, Julio’s Umhlanga, has closed its doors.
The restaurant, situated on Lagoon Drive, officially closed its doors on Friday, February 28.
In a post on its social media pages, the restaurant thanked patrons and said it was an honour serving the community.
“We will miss the laughter, joys of hearing beautiful voices and enjoying watching you dance to live music. You have become patrons to friends then became family. Thank you all, we will cherish every little moment. With lots of love from the team at Julio’s Umhlanga.”

Many patrons, reminiscing about their cherished dining experiences, turned to social media to share their disappointment.
“How sad … We were on our way from Wales to see you in March …. We always visited you when in Umbhlanga,” said a customer.
Another added, “Very sad indeed will miss the beautiful food.”
It is unclear at this stage what restaurant will now take over the space in uMhlanga, however there is still a footprint for the restaurant which also has a site in Durban North.
This is the second major restaurant closure in uMhlanga following La Spiaggia last year.
After 28 years the restaurant on the promenade closed its doors, with the owner saying the eThekwini Municipality had put out the restaurant for a re-tender, prompting the decision to close its doors.
