Shavathon enjoys colourful support in La Lucia
The next Shavathon event for uMhlanga takes place at The Crescent Umhlanga on March 8.
CANSA Shavathon 2025 was launched at various shopping malls and public venues last weekend.
One of those shopping centres was La Lucia Mall where hundreds of sprayers, shavers and supporters participated.

Some kept with the theme and were bold and vibrant, spraying their hair in bright colours. Some chose not to shave or spray but stopped to give a donation to CANSA.
One brave young woman kept to the theme – Fearless Hair To Show You Care, and shaved all her hair off in honour of her godmother.
Sustainability co-ordinator for CANSA KZN, Natasha Brown, said the event was well supported. She invited corporates, schools and other organisations to also host Shavathon events to show their support for the fight against cancer.
“Communities across Durban are encouraged to spray, shave or snip off their ponytails to raise much-needed funds for cancer patients,” she said.
Human hair is also needed to create wigs for cancer patients due to hair loss and damage when they undergo chemotherapy. Some of the drugs also damage hair follicles which is why CANSA receives human hair donations (ponytails) in order to make sufficient wigs for cancer survivors requesting them.
