“We received an urgent alert via a WhatsApp crime alert group regarding the robbery. Our Special Operations Team responded to the incident and spoke to the shaken victim who informed our officers that the suspect, armed with a firearm, was hiding in a bush close to a parking lot.

“Once spotted the suspect was arrested and the victim’s stolen cellphone and a knife were found in his possession. When questioned about the firearm he had brandished during the robbery, the suspect admitted to hiding it under a vehicle. A replica firearm was subsequently recovered,” he said.

Powell also thanked the Durban North CPF for their assistance in the arrest.
