New trail walking group formed for Virginia Bush exploration

The idea behind the group is to not only offer exercise but also education about the reserve as well.

IN an effort to promote and explore the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve, Riverside Trail has formed a new walking group open to all residents.

Buzz Bolton, a trail running stalwart and founder of Riverside Trail, explained the distances will vary between 4.5km and 5km.

“We would like to make it bi-weekly on a Saturday starting and finishing at the BOX Coffee shop situated inside the Virginia United grounds, off Danville Avenue. The idea behind the group is to not only offer exercise but also education about the reserve as well. There will be group leaders who will share information about the fauna and flora in each of the three connecting bushes.

“This innovation will create an ideal opportunity for residents living in close proximity to experience the beauty and solitude of Virginia Bush. Bruce Thoresson, a resident who has lived in the area all his life, was very impressed with what lies under our noses when he participated in his first-ever walkabout recently. We really hope more people get behind this initiative as it’s a great way to explore and promote Virginia Bush,” he said.

The walks are managed by Riverside Trail via a WhatsApp group.
