Smuts and Smith bat Dolphins to emphatic win

This was the fourth Dolphins win in a row after losing their opening three games.

HALF centuries from Jon-Jon Smuts and Jason Smith guided the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to an emphatic seven wicket win over NWU North West Dragons on Sunday

Smith made his second consecutive half century while Smuts’ 75 was a welcome return to form following a failure against the Knights on Friday.

The men from Durban turned their campaign around in fine style winning four matches in a row after they lost their first three matches of the competition.

The Dolphins won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Prenelan Subrayen and Tristan Luus ended with two wickets apiece for the visitors at the JB Marks Oval and their efforts help restrict the Dragons to 246/7.

The reply from the Dolphins didn’t get off to the best start as they lost opener Tshepang Dithole for three.

However, Smuts and Bryce Parsons then combined for an 88-run stand before the latter was caught for 39 off 41 balls.

Smuts was then joined by Smith who added 56 for the fourth wicket but they had to leave the field for rain and when they returned the Dolphins target had been adjusted.

Ultimately Smith and Dolphins stalwart Khaya Zondo brought the team home.

Scoreboard summary

Toss: Dolphins
North West Dragons 246/7 (50 overs)
Hollywoodbets Dolphins 216/3 (34.5 overs)
Dolphins won by 7 wickets (DLS method)
