WORK to rehabilitate and upgrade Kings Park Swimming Pool is currently underway with the R42-million project expected to come to a close by the end of April.

The municipal run pool has been undergoing a major revamp after strong winds damaged the roof last year.

The pool has been closed to the public since November 2024 to allow for the renovations.

“The eThekwini Municipality has allocated R42-million to rehabilitate the facility, to enhance both its aesthetics and functionality. This upgrade forms part of the City’s ongoing maintenance programme for all municipal swimming venues.

“Key improvements include the installation of 1500 LUX lighting, glass window replacements, non-slip coatings for stairs and paving, upgrades to walkway structures and handrails, a complete overhaul of two canteen areas, plastering and painting, new signage, a scoreboard, and diving boards,” the City said in a statement.

The Kings Park Swimming Complex is the only swimming facility in South Africa with FINA (International Swimming Federation) accreditation, recognised by the International Olympic Committee for hosting international water sports competitions.

“Weather permitting, the repairs are expected to be completed by the end of April.” the statement ended.
