Support needed for charitable Knit-A-Thon in Durban North

The event is open to everyone and those who knit or crochet are welcome to join St Martin's Church and experience this event.

SHARON Liebetrau, the co-ordinator for the annual Knit-A-Thon event at St Martin’s Church in Durban North, is encouraging residents to support the upcoming event on Saturday, April 5.

The event is part of the Bulwer Outreach programme which sees members of St Martin’s Church as well as the community in Durban North, knit and crochet hundreds of items including clothes, beanies and blankets for the community of Bulwer, in the foothills of the Drakensberg, who often face the harsh winters with very little.

Liebetrau said the event is open to everyone and encouraged those who knit or crochet to join the church and experience this event.

“The Knit-A-Thon is a time for our church members and local community to come together to work on knitting or crochet projects that, when complete will make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate than ourselves. This is a day of building camaraderie and friendships within our community as we work together. Knitting and crocheting is great brain therapy. This is an important day of spreading warmth and having fun, sharing ideas and patterns as we work in a casual and friendly atmosphere often with some people we would probably never have met in our daily life,” she said.

For those who can’t make Saturday and have items to donate they are welcome to drop them at the Church office.

“They are also welcome to just drop items on the Saturday even if they can’t stay. On the day people can join us for as long or short time as they have available. They don’t have to stay from 09:00 to 16:00. There is no entrance charge to join us but monetary and wool donations are always welcome,” she said.

Important to remember
