Burst pipe floods Glen Anil home

Thousands of litres of water also brought tons of sand into the property, creating a raised walkway of mud.

A BURST pipe caused a deluge of water to flood a home on Glen Anil Street in the early hours of Thursday morning (April 10).

Vaughan Williams said the water had flooded the lower section of their home, causing thousands of rands worth of damage to appliances and furniture.

“There have been several bursts over the last few years. It’s a longstanding issue on this stretch of road. I woke up at about 03:00 to use the loo and I heard water rushing. I looked out the window and saw clear skies and then spotted the burst.

“When I got downstairs, the water was up to my shins and a stream of water had caused our electricity to trip. Sadly we lost most of our appliances and our furniture was soaked. The burst also brought tons of sand into our garden where we have a mud plateau in our walkway. While I understand there are financial constraints for the city, residents on Glen Anil Street in particular have called for the water pipes to be replaced in its entirety as this has happened several times in the last few years,” he said.

Williams also thanked the DA ward candidate for the area, Rowena Bosman, for her help in getting the water shut off and the burst repaired.

The burst outside Williams’ home came three days after another burst pipe just meters away which damaged the tarmac and verges of homes on the road.
