Two arrested after armed robbery in Durban North

The armed robbery targeted a pedestrian and was one of four incidents reported this weekend alone.

TWO suspects have been arrested for allegedly robbing a pedestrian at knifepoint on Ranleigh Crescent in Durban North on Sunday afternoon (April 13).

The incident occurred just after 16:50 and a distress alert was raised on a local security WhatsApp Group.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said response officers were dispatched to the scene to assist.

“It was established that a female victim was robbed of her belongings by two suspects armed with knives. Officers were informed that one suspect had been seen on Balmoral Drive. That suspect was swiftly apprehended, and both a stolen cellphone and a knife used in the robbery were recovered.

“Meanwhile, the second suspect fled the scene and was spotted walking on Swapo Road. With co-ordinated efforts between response teams, the second suspect was soon apprehended at the intersection of Old Mill Way and Swapo Road,” he said.

Powell confirmed that both suspects were handed over to Durban North police.

“This weekend alone, Marshall Security has responded to four incidents of armed robbery where pedestrians were targeted. We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and take extra precautions: avoid walking alone where possible, do not display valuable items such as cellphones or jewellery, walk in groups, and stay behind a gate or in a secure area while waiting for transport. Your safety is important — please stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately,” he said.
