Six parties and independent candidate to contest Ward 110 by-elections

A total of six parties as well as an independent candidate will contest for the vacant ward councillor position.

RESIDENTS of Ward 110, which includes Sunningdale, Glen Anil, Mount Moriah and a section of Glen Hills, will go to the polls on Wednesday, April 16 to elect a new ward councillor.

A total of six parties as well as an independent candidate will contest the elections.

The by-elections were confirmed earlier this year following the dismissal of former DA councillor Aamir Abdul who was elected in 2021.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) sent out a statement reminding residents to bring their identity document (ID) for registration, either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary ID Certificate.

“Eligible voters will be required to complete their physical home address on registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence. Documented proof of address (e.g. a municipal account) is not required. Voters are reminded that it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which they are not ordinarily resident,” the IEC said in a statement.

The candidates for Ward 110 are:

Bronwynne Delaney (Independent Candidate)
Sifiso Ngema (ANC)
Rowena Bosman (DA)
Little Pungwana (NFP)
Sibusiso Mthethwa (EFF)
Mandla Biyela (MK)
Pragasan Padayachee (1860NIC Congress)

The voting stations for Ward 110 are listed as the tent at Rinaldo Park, the tent at Sunningdale Park, Dale View Secondary School, the tent at Mt Moriah Outdoor Gym and Mt Royal Primary School and will be open from 07:00 until 21:00.
