New Ward 110 councillor looks forward to working with community

Mandla Biyela, a Mount Royal resident, said he hopes to address several service delivery issues plaguing the ward.

COUNCILLOR elect for Ward 110 Mandla ‘Motoung’ Biyela said he plans to address service delivery issues plaguing the area as he steps into his new role.

A little over a week ago, history was made when the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) won its first-ever metro by-election in eThekwini.

The ward, previously held by the DA since 2021, includes Mount Moriah, Mount Royal, Rainham, Sunningdale, Glen Anil and a section of Glen Hills.

Biyela, a Mount Royal resident, joined the party in 2023 from the ANC. He said he hopes to address several service delivery issues plaguing the ward.

“This by-election proved people want change. Service delivery is something that needs to be addressed and in the area where I live, unemployment, crime, sewerage and road infrastructure are some of the main areas that need to be addressed. I’ve always been a man of the community and my goal is to serve the residents of Ward 110. I would like to convene a meeting and speak to the community because going forward I want to work with them,” he said.

Biyela also thanked all those who voted for him.

“The MK party made history in Ward 110 because it’s our first ward in the eThekwini Metro. I would like to thank the MK Party comrades for coming out to support as well as the community for putting their trust in me,” he said.

Of the 18 708 registered voters there were 6 256 votes recorded.
