Business robbery syndicate bust in joint operation
The suspects have been linked to business robberies in Kenville and Pinetown.
A GANG of robbers linked to various business robberies, including one in Kenville, has been arrested in a joint operation involving law enforcement officers from various police stations as well as a private security company.
The KwaMashu SAPS, Greenwood Park SAPS and Durban North SAPS Trio Crime Units, together with Crime Intelligence and assisted by Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, made the arrest as the suspects were en-route to an informal settlement in the Springfield Park area.
Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell confirmed the arrest was made on Tuesday, May 13, after information suggested the suspects were planning to commit a business robbery later that evening.

“An operational plan was formulated and the suspects were expected to board a Toyota Quantum waiting at a bus stop on Umgeni Road. The vehicle had previously been linked to a business robbery in the Kenville area just two days prior, during which cigarettes and cash were stolen.
“While conducting surveillance, several suspects were spotted entering the vehicle and officers moved, arresting them. A search of the suspects yielded a shotgun with seven live rounds and a black replica firearm. The suspects, along with the vehicle, were transported to Greenwood Park SAPS,” he said.
Powell added that information led officers to the Ntuzuma area, where another suspect linked to the same business robberies was arrested.

“The arrested individuals have been positively identified and are believed to be part of a larger syndicate responsible for multiple business robberies across the greater Durban area. It has since been established that the suspects were also involved in a recent shootout with SAPS in the Pinetown area following another business robbery. An attempted murder case has been opened in connection with the attack on police officers,” he said.
In all six suspects were taken into custody.
