Candlelight Concert Series lights up Durban this winter

A unique musical experience awaits music lovers in eThekwini and surrounding areas as Fever launches their internationally renowned Candlelight concerts in Durban at The Playhouse from July 26. This extraordinary musical event, in an intimate candlelit setting, will allow the audience to immerse themselves in the timeless masterpieces of composers like Vivaldi, Mozart, and Chopin, while also experiencing fresh, reimagined interpretations of popular hits from artists such as Queen, ABBA, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran in 60 minutes sets.

STARTING from July 26, The Playhouse Company in Durban will host a remarkable series of performances which will see the venue being transformed into intimate candlelit setting as the city joins over 150 others worldwide in becoming host to the Candlelight concerts.

Thousands of lit candles will illuminate the venue for the extraordinary musical event set to kick off with tributes to Coldplay, Queen, and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Organisers have described Candlelight as “renowned for bringing classical music to unique spaces beyond traditional concert halls, celebrating each city’s cultural heritage”.

The historical elegance of The Playhouse Company provides an ideal atmosphere for this one-of-a-kind experience. Candlelight concerts have enchanted audiences worldwide in awe-inspiring venues, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Central Hall Westminster in London, and the S.E.A. Aquarium in Singapore.

Durban now joins this illustrious list, offering locals the chance to immerse themselves in an unforgettable evening of music. Candlelight highlights the collaborative spirit between local musicians and the organisers, who believe that “classical music can resonate with a broader audience”.

The concerts promise a diverse musical selection designed to cater to all tastes, including timeless pieces by Vivaldi, Mozart, and Chopin, alongside reimagined renditions of popular hits from artists like Queen, ABBA, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran. The organisers emphasise that, “Candlelight appeals to a wide range of attendees, including those who might never have considered attending a classical music concert.”

The opening programme, “Candlelight: Tribute to Queen,” will feature iconic melodies in a captivating 60-minute performance at The Playhouse Company. This event is scheduled for July 26 at 18:00, with doors opening one hour prior. Late entry is not permitted, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees.
