SANRAL urges motorists to take note of N2 nighttime road closure

The closure is due to the installation of two overhead sign gantries which span the N2.

THE South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has advised motorists travelling on the N2 northbound carriageway to be aware of temporary nighttime closure over the coming weekend.

The N2, between the KwaMashu off-ramp and Mount Edgecombe interchange (northbound), going towards King Shaka Airport, will be closed from 19:00 on Saturday, July 12 until 07:00 on Sunday, July 13.

According to the agency the closure is due to the installation of two overhead sign gantries which span the N2.

“Construction is getting to an advanced stage on the N2 and now requires installation of road sign gantries. This closure is part of the ongoing upgrade process for the N2 between KwaMashu and uMdloti,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s KZN Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer.

Lowe added that only the fast lane of the N2 southbound carriageway will also be closed during those times for safety reasons.

SANRAL further stated that all road users are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and where possible leave for destinations earlier than usual.

Motorists travelling on the N2 northbound can either use the Umgeni Road off-ramp or the Queen Nandi off-ramp and then use the M4 travelling north.
