Blank gun recovered in Mount Edgecombe attempted robbery

The recovered firearm was later identified as a 9mm blank gun. The scene was secured and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.

AN attempted armed robbery on the M41 near Mt Edgecombe on Wednesday afternoon ended with the recovery of a 9mm blank gun after a swift tactical response.

According to Ensure Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the incident occurred at around 14:00 when a woman waiting on the side of the highway was approached by a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect allegedly demanded her cellphone and other belongings.

“The victim refused to hand over her possessions, and the suspect was somehow disturbed and fled on foot,” said Van Reenen.

A description of the man was circulated to tactical units in the area. With assistance from other roleplayers, officers searched the vicinity and located the suspect.

“When our officer confronted him, the suspect drew the firearm, prompting our member to discharge a shot in defence of his life. The man immediately dropped the weapon and his belongings before fleeing the scene,” said Van Reenen.

No injuries were reported.
