The incidents were reported in Greenwood Park and Umgeni Park on Wednesday morning.
TWO suspects were arrested in two separate incidents involving copper cable thefts in Greenwood Park and Umgeni Park on Wednesday morning (August 12).
The incidents took place at 01:30 on Allenby Road and at 04:45 Acutt Avenue.
In the first incident, Swift Private Security were alerted to the suspect’s presence by a community WhatsApp group which noticed several dogs barking on the road.
“Our officers spotted a lone male walking along Allenby Road carrying multiple bags. His behaviour, coupled with the early morning hour, aroused immediate suspicion. Our officer approached and engaged the individual in questioning,” explained Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall.

Hours later, another suspect was detained by Marshall Security in the Umgeni Park area.
“Suspected stolen copper cables and tools were found in his possession. The suspect was unable to provide any reasonable explanation for their origin and was immediately apprehended,” said the company’s spokesperson Tyron Powell.
The man was also handed over to the Greenwood Park police and charged for being in possession of suspected stolen items.
Both companies encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to their police stations and community WhatsApp groups.
