Copper thief nabbed in Durban North after camera alert
Durban North SAPS were called to the scene and took the suspect and the recovered items into custody. A case has been opened for further investigation.
A copper thief was arrested in Durban North on Sunday afternoon after Marshall Security officers responded to an alert from their off-site monitoring centre.
At around 16:20, surveillance cameras detected an intruder on a client’s property in Fairway Road. Armed response officers were immediately dispatched with details of the suspect’s description and movements.

“Upon arrival, the suspect spotted our officers and attempted to flee on foot. A brief chase ensued, ending with the successful apprehension of the suspect,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.
A search revealed the suspect had removed copper pipes from the property. The stolen pipes, along with tools used in the break-in, were recovered.
“This incident highlights the importance of vigilant monitoring and immediate response in protecting residential properties and ensuring community safety,” Powell added.
