One injured in uMhlanga shooting

The suspects fled the scene of the shooting in a white vehicle.

ONE person was injured in a shooting incident on Ridgeside Drive in uMhlanga on Wednesday evening (August 17).

Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, said the victim was seated in his vehicle when unknown men opened fire on him.

The suspects were allegedly disturbed by a vehicle that had caught alight a few metres away from the shooting.

“It was confirmed that unknown suspects, reportedly travelling in a white vehicle (make and model unconfirmed), opened fire on occupants of another vehicle. The suspects fired several rounds before fleeing the scene, reportedly disturbed by a secondary incident nearby, where a vehicle was found ablaze at the Ridgeside traffic robots,” he said.

“The targeted vehicle came under heavy fire, and both the driver and passenger managed to flee on foot into nearby bushes. They later reached a business complex where they sought assistance. KZN VIP Medics treated one victim on scene for a moderate gunshot wound, before the individual was transported to a nearby medical facility for further care,” he said.

The shooting incident comes a day after a Blue Security security officer survived a hail of bullets.
